Since the release of the latest Crane Hydraulic Roller Lifter (24533-16) for the Holden V8, we can now offer the same range of Hydraulic Roller cams for non roller engines (1988-1997) and 1997 onward engines that originally came with Roller Camshafts. All cams now have full size lobes for maximum durability.
This is due to our redesigned lifters that do not unblock the oil gallery on maximum lift, unlike some of our competitors! The Crane lifter is manufactured in Crane's own facility, from premium Chrome-moly steel, unlike some of our competitors that use cast bodies.
These lifters have captive guide bars, eliminating the need for the stock GM guide bar arrangement. The design is suited to higher RPM usage than most standard style roller lifters. As with any Hydraulic lifter, correct valve springs are crucial to achieving the desired RPM potential of the camshaft.
We have also added a range of new Mechanical Roller grinds that utilise the improved design features of the 24518-16 and Ultra Pro 24570-16 Roller lifters, designed specifically for the Holden, unlike other "name brand" lifters for Holden that are incorrect and will cause oiling issues.
We have a continually-updated library of Crane Tech Bulletins, all available for download.
Cam Break-In Procedure
Due to the EPA’s mandate for zinc removal from most motor oils, proper flat tappet camshaft break-in procedure is more critical than ever before. This is true for both hydraulic and mechanical flat tappet camshafts.
As a point of interest, the most critical time in the life of a flat tappet camshaft is the first 20 minutes of “break-in” during which the bottoms of the tappets “mate-in” with the cam lobes.
